Romantic Athlete
Athleisure was never my thing. I was never aroused by the look of leggings worn as pants or workout separates worn as a complete look. Why would anyone want to look like they’re always in a perpetual state of going to and fro a work out class? Gross. I’m not judging per se but it’s just not my scene. That is until I saw Cassi Gibson wearing a pair of green Adidas running shorts on a cobblestone road in Portugal with her paramour Henry Taylor. She paired the shorts with a linen button down. The look inspired the romantic in me. The look of running shorts promenading through a European country is just inspiration I needed this summer. I decided to try the look for myself…putting my own spin on it of course and these were the results.
I present the romantic athlete.
While I’m an ocean away from any European landscapes, I can traverse the farmers markets and grocery stores in New York in this outfit. It’s breezy and lose which makes for long wear in the humid muck that is a northeast summer.
The colors make seem complicated but I never fell out of love with color blocking (hello again, 2012). The brown Gunnar sweatshirt is in constant rotation. It’s comfortable and the fit is sublime. It was a steal for only $18 as well. The running shorts were also a steal ($8.95) and is carrying me through these summer months because there is nothing like an ass breeze on a hot summer day!
I completed my outfit with a white pump because I stan a little romance in any outfit. The resurgence of the white church pump reminds me of Audrey Hepburn in Sabrina or Lauren Bacall in How to Marry A Millionaire. The pristine sophistication of it all, amiright?! Blame the obsession with romance on the water sign in me. I can't help it. Anywho, this outfit should hold me over until I can cross the pond in search of a little R&R on the Amalfi coast (*cough* next summer *cough*)
