Back to Black

Back to Black

New York is synonymous with black attire. Walk down any city street and the grumpy residents of Gotham can be found donned and draped in various washes of the colour. I, honestly/truly, don't know why New Yorkers love black (maybe because it is the preferred uniform of nearly every freaking job/trade) but it is a love affair that will last longer than Pusha T's adoration of processing cocaine. For years, I was adamantly against dressing in black more than once a week because I thought it made me look as depressed as everyone else (even though I was). That all changed once I started thrifting again.

Ok...I also gained weight. Shopping when you're no longer a size 4 is a mindfuck within itself and has really changed how I shop and what I buy (a post coming on that topic later). Anywho, I saw this shirt from across the room and it was love at first sight. I had a billion other things in my arms but eventually, it made its way into my arms as well. I love this shirt because it is lightweight and allows my underarms to breathe in these brutally humid and heat stroke-inducing summers. I'm in love with the pleats and I am in awe of the draping. However, it's the color that stole my heart. Yes, I'm talking about Black.

Had this shirt come in another color I don't think I would have purchased it. I love how it sculpts around me and the color assists in that effort. The color lends a hand to accentuate the pleats and when they say black is slimming, they are not lying. I paired this with a satin short because it's hot in New York and I was tired of my jeans sticking to my leg while I wait for the train. I need my lower half to catch the occasional breeze. Air conditioning...but make it fashion. Amiright?!
