Gotta Run!

Gotta Run!

Sneaker culture has hit its zenith in the fashion landscape. Designers and brands have replicated the Balenciaga sock sneaker more times than I want count and triple soles are (gulp) here to stay. The latter I do not mind because fashion icons such as Tracee Ellis Ross have made them appealing to me. (If you’re perturbed by my dubbing Tracee a style icon already -you’re new to this because Tracee has been serving looks for life, honey. Does Girlfriends mean NOTHING to you people?!) Anywho, sneakers are here to stay. They’ve always been here but even more so they’re becoming a fashionable staple in a lane outside of athleisure. Can I get an amen?!

I don’t typically buy sneakers. I love shoes with sculpted heels, vibrant colors, and a hefty price tag. I’ve never really been a “sneakerhead” and every boy I’ve dated has abandoned that life shortly before and shortly after our meeting. I didn’t see the point in buying shoes that were meant for working out. Truthfully, I still don’t but I’m learning.

The sneakers in this photo don’t scream “laced” but they look good with just about everything I own. They’re comfortable and they easily get me from point A to point B quickly. I can run errands, work a full shift, and make it to the bodega five minutes before closing time in these sneakers. They aren’t the MOST fashionable but they add a certain je ne sais quoi to my wardrobe and I can’t deny they’re a necessity for the busy life I live.

What I love so much about these shoes is how amazing they look with trousers and dresses. I love how nonchalant and unabsorbed I appear when I hit the streets or a party. I feel so chic by wearing something that can be dubbed “unfashionable” or “out-of-date” in a moment’s notice.

In the future, I will definitely invest in cooler sneakers (whatever that means) but for now I’m just fine in my Nonchalant Blues.

What are some of your favorite sneakers?
