Five Instagram posts later and I think I'm finally ready...I am done dodging questions and conveniently forgetting...I am ready to divulge the secrets to my "signature" red lip.

The warm, concentrated hue is actually a blend that was born out of the need for a rouge that didn't wash me out or blotch me up. It took a while but this past January, while looking for a mid-winter pick-me-up, I stopped into my local Sephora and discovered the first piece of my formula- Red Square by Nars. (I. AM. A. DIE. HARD. NARS. STAN!) I swear by all things Nars. Their products work well with women of darker skin tones and provide and rich, long-lasting, and positively opaque pigment that can transform an outfit completely from drab to "I see where she was going with that...I don't get it but, I see."

Formerly, my go to shade was Cruella by Nars. Nevertheless, it had too much of a blue undertone for me thus, it washed me out. I moved to Red Square but it is too playful of a color for me to wear day to day. You will find no bigger fan of orange than me but I can't walk into a meeting and ask for millions of dollars* painted in orange lipstick, can I?! From this Goldilocks-esque frustration, my signature lip was born.

This past July, I went into MAC looking for Ruby Woo but all they had was Cherry (my typical shopping luck). I purchased it anyway and right before my buyer's remorse grabbed ahold of me, I tested my erroneous purchase with my Nars Red Square (typical Saturday night boredom). It was a match made in heaven! The marriage of Cherry (MAC) and Red Square (Nars) allows me to be expressive and yet, in the words of Tyra Banks, "make it fashion."
